Description

On March 20th, our newest special exhibition opened to the public. "Holocaust Survivors in a New Land" describes how those persecuted by the Nazi regime immigrated to the United States after WWII and made new lives for themselves in the South. In New Orleans and beyond, these survivors formed clubs that helped them become accustomed to life in a new land.

We'd like to invite you to visit MSJE, free of charge, on an educator visit. We'd also like to invite you and your students to view our new exhibition on a field trip this spring. MSJE sees thousands of visitors yearly, but our most important guests might just be the young people who come to the museum as part of their K-12 journey.

Through primary sources—letters, photographs, and contemporaneous news articles— students will learn about the Holocaust, the history of immigration to New Orleans, and the longstanding multiculturalism of the South. Our field trips, aimed at kids in grades 3-12, present this material in an age-appropriate way.

Our field trips are free for Louisiana and Mississippi students (thanks to a generous grant from First Horizon).

Email lizzi@msje.org to arrange a free educator visit.

We also offer an array of field trips based on our core exhibitions. Learn more about these field trip options here.

Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience

The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience explores the many ways that Jews in the American South influenced and were influenced by the distinct cultural heritage of their new homes. Through exhibits, collections and programs focused on the unique and remarkable history of Southern Jews, the Museum encourages new understanding and appreciation for identity, diversity, and acceptance. MSJE offers field trips, lesson plans and programming to students and families throughout the year.
