Description
We're talking free everything! Get Free Fridays is a community effort led by Dancing Grounds (DG) to reduce the barriers to health and wellness in the St. Claude corridor of Bulbancha. One Friday a month, the Dancing Grounds building will be open to the public for completely free activities… free classes, free plant & book swaps, free gatherings of movement healing, free food, and free spaces to rest.
Get Free Fridays is inspired by the black radical tradition of resisting capitalism by gathering and offering free resources to the community. We are emphasizing the importance of mental and physical wellness, involvement in nature, and developing camaraderie in our neighborhood.
As Nelson Mandela said, “To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
All scheduled activities are FREE OF CHARGE and open to anyone. There will be a brief check-in when you arrive. If you plan on taking a free movement class, you can sign up for that class ahead of time below, though walk-ins are welcome!
We plan on growing this initiative throughout the year and increasing the amount of free offerings. Do you have a skill, craft, or some knowledge you’d like to offer the community for free? Reach out to Kendra Unique at kendra@dancingrounds.org and be part of our Get Free Fridays!

Our flagship initiative, Dance for Social Change, inspires New Orleans youth to use their artistic talents to catalyze positive social change in our community. We also host the most comprehensive adult dance program in the city. Since 2012, DG has reached over 3,500 young people, 8,000 adults and 12,000 audience members. From our programming to operations, staffing and resourcing, we lead from our values of equity & racial justice, space & place, integrity & accountability, relationships & organizing, abundance & joy.
