Description

The Louisiana Children’s Museum will host our third annual Kindergarten Kickoff!!  The overall goals of this event are to allay some of the anxiety of parents and caregivers as it relates to starting “big school”, to have a moment to celebrate this milestone with upcoming Kindergarteners, and have kiddos practice a few skills that are expected in their new grade. Some of our facilitated activities for them will include cutting with scissors, placing folders in their backpacks, balancing their lunch trays, writing their names, boarding a school bus, etc. We will also have several Kindergarten teachers mingling throughout the Museum who will also host two 20-minute talks (one in Spanish) during the event. They will cover some expectations for parents, caregivers, and students. Of course, there will be three special story times with books on the topic of Kindergarten. Several community partners will be present to share their services and programs, including New Orleans Public Schools, the New Orleans Public Library, We Scribblin’, and the New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center. This event will be free with required registration on our website.

LCM’s mission is to contribute to the region’s future prosperity by engaging children’s potential and making that potential visible. Through play, shared explorations, and in dialogue with adults, LCM connects children to each other, their environment, and communities. It envisions a world where communities value children, strengthen and support families, and improve life outcomes by ensuring access to safe, innovative learning experiences. LCM’s expansive indoor/outdoor campus is the epicenter of LCM’s programs, which are designed for children from birth through third grade who have various learning styles and abilities. Annually, LCM welcomes approximately 190,000 local and out-of-town visitors and engages approximately 12,000 New Orleans area youth and adults through its community outreach programs.
